"This world is trying to kill Lily Proctor. Her life-threatening allergies keep her from enjoying experiences that others in her hometown of Salem take for granted, which is why she is determined to enjoy her first high school party with her best friend and longtime crush, Tristan. But after a humiliating incident in front of half her graduating class, Lily wishes she could just disappear.
Suddenly, Lily is in a different Salem—one overrun with horrifying creatures and ruled by powerful women called Crucibles. Strongest and cruelest of them all is Lillian . . . Lily's other self in this alternate universe.
What makes Lily weak at home is what makes her extraordinary in New Salem. In this confusing world, Lily is torn between responsibilities she can't hope to shoulder alone and a love she never expected."

Forget what you think you know about Salem and witches. Angelini will educate you on epic parallel worlds where witches rule. They are the lifelines, without them you wont survive. Try to burn them....it only makes the stronger.
This book was everything I was hoping for. Fast past and out of this world....and into another parallel world to be exact. This book was so fantastical done that it made me obsessed with the thought of parallel worlds and maybe the people we as society think are crazy really aren't, they just see all the worlds all at once.....Interesting right? Lily is a very sick girl who literally has so many crazy illness that the doctors don't know what is wrong with her or how she is alive. She also has a very attractive best friend who she has been in love with for years. Having great eye candy by your hospital bed may be a fine trade off. He is the school hottie and also the school player. He gets what he wants and then he throws the girl away like last weeks trash. He has always been her best friend, holds her hand when she has reactions, stays up sitting by her hospital bed, and sneaks in cards so they can play games in the hospital. Then one night everything changes he kisses her, and their romance begins right? I mean two best friends falling in love sounds perfect and the way most YA books go. Whelp not this one. Just when you think you have this book figured out it throws you through so many twist and turns you have no idea what is going to happen next.
This book isn't about Lily falling in love (although there is a GREAT romance story line it isn't the main plot.) She ends up in a different world face to face with Lillian. Lillian brought Lilly to her world, but why? Lillian is cruel and will stop at NOTHING to succeed in making her Salem the way she thinks it should be. Where children, woman, and men die there is no end to what Lillian will sacrifice. Lily must stop Lillian and with the help of a few good men she may find a way to end her.
This book was FANTASTIC Josephine Angelini shows once again how truly talented she is. I cant and wont give away much about this book, because it was great going into blindly. The reviews I read were very discrete about the actual plot and now I know why. I LOVED how I had no idea what to expect because Angelini writes it so well that the only way you could know what to expect is if someone told you. Not knowing in this book is half the fun.
Hands down one of the best and original books I have read this year...actually ever. I highly recommend this book!!!!! Please let me know your thoughts on this book =)
