Tea Talk: The Hype Monster

Tea Talk posts give me a chance to have conversations with you guys and I love these posts. Thank you for you guys who comment and talk to me about the topic of the week. This Weeks Topic: Does the hype monster get to you, and make books less enjoyable because your expectations are too high? How do you keep it from getting the best of you?   I will be the first to say that yes the hype monster gets me about 80% of the time. I hate it and I don't know how to stop it. I enjoy looking at other blogs and normally when a new book comes out the book is reviewed by many bloggers at the same time. When they ALL rave and the goodread rating is super high I cant help but think "okay I need to clean my schedule for the weekend because I have to read this amazing book." And then I will read the book and really not get into it because my expectations were too high. I know that it is very likely that I will not enjoy the book with such expectations but I cant make myself sto

Review: Poison Princess

Title: Poison Princess Series: The Arcana Chronicles #1 Author: Kresley Cole Genre: Ya Apocalyptic, Fantasy/Paranormal Goodreads Overall Rating: 4.17 Pages: 369 Published: October 2nd 2012 by Simon & Schuster My Rating: 4/5 Stars      In A Nut Shell This book is full of creative and original fantasy/paranormal aspects that I LOVED. I found this book to be different than most books I have read before, but sadly it had one downfall that I just could not get past and made my rating flip flop between 3.5 and 4 stars. I normally enjoy romances, but this book had such potential to be beyond original and I felt like the love interest over shadowed the main story line. I felt like the romance was more of just sexual tension between a confused girl and a obsessive boy that was unstable even before the apocalypse. He also wants in Evie's pants so bad he cant stand it. We get a fantastic play on tarot cards being more than just a stack of cards and po

Review: World After by Susan Ee

Title: World After Series: Penryn & the End of Days #2 Author: Susan Ee Genre: YA Apocalyptic Goodreads Rating:  4.29   Pages: 438 Published:  November 21st 2013 by Hodder & Stoughton   My Rating: 5/5 Stars      In A Nut Shell This sequel was AMAZING I couldn't put it down. I have nothing bad to say about this book. If you are worried about this book not being as good as the first one do not worry! I was blown away by all the dark twists and turns this book took. Penryn Steps up her game and some how becomes even more fierce in this book. We get to learn more about Raffe's history as well as other characters> No rock is left uncovered in this sequel and it is so refreshing. The questions we had at the end of Angelfall were answered, and Ee gave us more questions to ponder over while waiting for the next and final book. I am beyond shocked with how creative Susan Ee is and what a page turner this book was for me. Tea Talk: Reviewing Books I Didnt Enjoy

Tea Talk's are posts where I ask questions and have discussions with you guys =) MANY of you guys requested more tea talks so I plan on doing more of them! I am so glad you guys like Tea Talk because I really enjoy these posts. This weeks tea talk I want to discuss books that you give bad ratings to. Do you still review them on your blogs or Goodreads? Does it depend if the author contact you and asked you to read it, or if you bought the book with your own money? If you are just a reader of blogs do you think bloggers should talk about books they do not like?   For me when I started this blog I had a hard time with reviewing books I didn't like IF I was contacted by the author to read and review their book. I have read a few books that were sent to me for review that I just couldn't finish or didn't like at all, and I didn't review them because I didn't want to hurt feelings. Now that I have been blogging for awhile my feelings have changed. I

Review: Champion by Marie Lu

Title: Champion Series: A Legend Novel #3 Author: Marie Lu Genre: YA Dystopian Goodreads Rating: 4.40 Pages : 369 Published: November 5th 2013 by Putnam Juvenile My Rating: 5/5 Stars       In A Nut Shell This was a fantastic ending to this amazing series! I held off on this book for so long because I was afraid of how it would end, and I wasn't ready for this story to be over. I hate that I waited so long to read this book I feel like I truly cheated myself. This book had my heart racing just as much as the first book, if not more. This series truly is one of the most constantly amazing series. I HIGHLY recommend this series for women and men. If you are wanting to get your boyfriend, friend, hubby into reading then this is the series to get them. Mine finished before me he couldn't put them down!   Goodreads    He is a Legend. Review: Blythewood

Title: Blythewood Series: Blythewood #1 Author: Carol Goodman Genre: YA Paranormal Fantasy Goodreads Rating : 3.86 Published: October 8th 2013 by Viking Juvenile Pages: 496 My Rating: 3/5 Stars      In A Nut Shell Overall I felt like this was a fun read with interesting twists on historical events, I enjoyed the fantasy aspects and some of the surprising twists this book had, but to me this book was just okay, not fantastic or blow you away kind of read. I enjoyed the plot and the creative world that Goodman made. I was fascinated with he creatures and the school, but the main character to me was unlikeable who had little emotion and when she did it was just random cruel words to her friends. Other characters seemed pointless to bring in and had no need. The romance was iffy and just happened. If you do read this book I recommend borrowing it from the library.   Goodreads   Welcome to Blythewood. At seventeen, Avaline Hall has already

Review: The Girl of Fire and Thorns

Title: The Girl of Fire and Thorns Series: Fire and Thorns #1 Author: Rea Carson Genre: YA Fantasy Goodreads Rating: 3.83 Published: September 20th 2011 by Greenwillow Pages: 423 Favorite Quote: “Honor from death,” I snap, “is a myth. Invented by the war torn to make sense of the horrific. If we die, it will be so that others may live. Truly honorable death, the only honorable death, is one that enables life.” My Rating: 4/5 stars      IN A NUT SHELL For you who are getting your feet wet in the fantasy genre I believe this is a great book for you! This is a great YA fantasy book with a fantastic female role and a unique concept This book has plenty of action and I think would be a great book for both woman and men. I want to praise Carson for giving us a female character who is not the standard drop dead gorgeous female lead, but instead a woman who shows her beauty by loyalty and courage. I would think that I had this book figured out and just whe
